Balance is key

by Digital Team 24 May 2018

Your vagina’s health is much more complex than you may think. It takes more than daily cleansing with an intimate wash to ensure your lady bits are healthy and happy.  More importantly, just because your vagina looks and feels good doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s in its best shape. It’s all about the pH level.

Your vagina's pH level
Do you know that the healthy pH level of your vagina ranges between 3.5 to 4.5? This generally means no abnormal discharge, odour or irritation.A healthy vagina pH level will help protect you from infections like yeast infections and bladder infections.

So how should you keep your vagina's pH level balanced? An adequate intake of the right super foods can help ensure good vaginal health. Studies have shown that foods with omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics and bacteria-blasting properties are on top of the list for keeping your lady parts in tip top “No infections here, thank you very much!” condition.

Cranberry
Cranberry juice is linked to good bladders and UTI-free tracts. In fact, history shows that even the Native Americans used cranberries as a natural treatment for bladder and kidney diseases. Back to today though, they say it can even do double duty to prevent AND relieve the symptoms of urinary tract infections (UTI).

There are two schools of thought as to how this works:

One suggests that the acidic compounds of cranberries go down into your urine and beat up the bacteria before it has a chance to cause any infections, keeping your vaginal area in balanced pH heaven.

The other is that the chemicals in cranberries actually prevent the bacteria from sticking to your bladder wall or urinary tract. In particular, cranberries contain proanthocyanidins that possess anti-clinging properties, so the bacteria doesn’t get a chance to multiply further but is instead flushed out with your urine.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, cranberry has long been used to reduce bacteria in the urinary tract of both men and women and is safe. And a study in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology found that women who took cranberry after gynaecological surgery reduced the rate of UTI occurrence by half.

Prebiotics
Prebiotics are a dietary fibre that helps to boost the good bacteria that are already in the gut, such as probiotics. Generally food with high fibre contain high amount of prebiotics too i.e. apple with skin, chicory root, onion and garlic, dandelion greens.

Prebiotics also promote optimal vaginal condition. As an active ingredient in vagina wash, it effectively feeds the friendly bacteria inhibiting at ladies vulvar area, nourishing and helping these desirable bacteria overgrow the bad ones.

pH Plus Intimate Wash
Vagisil pH Plus Intimate Wash is formulated with two main ingredients - natural cranberry extract and Lacto-Prebiotic. Lacto-Prebiotic is a combination of lactic acid and prebiotics. The addition of lactic acid helps maintain an acidic environment at the vulvar area (pH level 3.5 to 4.5). Together with prebiotics, the good bacteria (Lactobacillus) can flourish and bad bacteria is prevented.

The key to a healthy vagina is knowing how to fight the bad bacteria and maintain an acidic pH level down there. Look out for signs of irritation, discomfort or odour as all these can mean that your vaginal area’s pH balance is off. Use Vagsil pH Plus Intimate Wash and let the cranberry and Lacto-Prebiotic balance it up.
